Rafting
Exodus 14:10-14 (NLT) As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, 11 and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? 12 Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”
13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. 14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
I watched a video of a person on a roller coaster, they realised soon after starting that it was a mistake to be on the ride. Their reaction were as you would expect faced with the inescapable terror that was to come. White water rafting can have the same effect, you see what is coming up and the feint hearted may paddle to shore.
Rapids, shaking, unstable environments, they can make us feel threatened, vulnerable, and we can retreat to safer shores, to tried and tested paths, we choose to “get off”
God causes our lives to grow by making the place around us uncomfortable, it’s one of his ways of leading us to new challenges, experiences, and witnesses to his character and kingdom. It can be testing, and we may well have a desire just to “get off”, but this reaction would be to our loss, and not allow us to see the kingdom and it’s King in all his glory
As things heat up, and start to shake, as expectations are challenged, say a prayer “keep me on for the whole ride, may I see you Kingdom come”, then hold tight and what with baited breath to allow God to show you new waters and what lies beyond them.
