Sin

We live in a better age, Dear Reader.

Before the coming of the Christ child, the law that had been given was set to allow restoration between those who had sinned unintentionally and God.

"Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. This is how you are to deal with those who sin unintentionally by doing anything that violates one of the Lord’s commands."- Lev 4:1

When a person realised they had transgressed, a set way of restoration was open to them.
Depending on their position and financial ability a certain sacrifice was to be made.
This achieved a few things. It was public, thus admitting to "a sin" within the community, even if all members were not aware of the specifics.

If they realised their sin had caused financial hardship they were to offer a guilt offering and repay the damage done, plus reperations. This allowed those who acted against God and people, but later felt remorse and guilt to set the matter straight before a "court of law" did it for them!

It should give the ability for humility and reflection to happen as a public action took place.
None of this is guaranteed, people can do many things and never have a change of heart, but the option is there.

The problem comes when people sin deliberately and with wilful intention.

No recourse is available for deliberately willful sin!, Sins of the "High Hand"

Numbers 15:30-31 (NLT) “But those who brazenly violate the Lord’s will, whether native-born Israelites or foreigners, have blasphemed the Lord, and they must be cut off from the community. 31 Since they have treated the Lord’s word with contempt and deliberately disobeyed his command, they must be completely cut off and suffer the punishment for their guilt.”

We read in 1 Sam 15
"Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.""

To set oneself against the living God with your heart and mind. This rebellion was equated to the worshipping of other entities, the practice of witchcraft!

The Christ child is a better sacrifice. He offers hope to all, whatever their prior actions, all are welcome into the kingdom as the sacrifice is pure and acceptable. Now all sin is taken care of, covered over, and dealt with.

We have in the Christ a fuller, better, more complete way of living that the law could never bring.

Amen to that.
