Birth Right

The bible records that Esau sold his birth right for a bowl of stew! (Gen 25:29ff)

 How cheaply did this man hold what was technically his. 

 He took the short term view. 

 Over the long term blessing of the firstborn son, Esau gave this in favour of a short meal.

 In today's culture we can miss the significance of this act.  

 He is dismissing who he is, his place in the family and the responsibilities that come with the position.

 Everything about what should "define him" is given up.

 He gains nothing in exchange except temporary removal of hunger.

 We may read and look on in wonder, why a person can make such a poor exchange.

Yet we have a birthright. The right to be children of God. It was severed by sin, but it's echo remains. The right needs to be claimed. 

 We cannot do it alone, no amount of our own statements will make it ours, for the sin on our life prevents it's restoration.

 Yet one exists who has provided a way.

 Jesus tells us that through His sacrifice, a way of restoration is possible.

 He removes the sin upon us, and gives us a way back to be called children of God.

 What does this cost? Nothing and everything. The gift is free to those who will receive it, but to those who receive it, they understand that everything is now meaningless compared to the giver of this gift.

 We receive eternity, and release the temporal.

 This must however involve a humbling experience, each person must admit to their need for saving!

 I urge you, Dear Reader, consider what is laid before you by the actions of Jesus, and decide. Will you accept our birthright, or will you settle for just a bowl of stew!

Dear Reader in today's economy we have intense pressure to be efficient. Many times this pressure to be efficient takes priority over being effective. Our world can look at things and say, "how do we make this happen faster." Yet somehow "Jesus the Carpenter" was completely effective in his calling in the time and circumstances he found himself. Same

One post I watched, had a line "In reality, there is a lot more that makes us similar than makes us different" It's good to remember. In fact, the thing which makes us all similar is being made in the image of God. During a war, authorities are at pains to paint the enemy as something different, even to labelling the enemy with names to differentiate the people we are fighting against. If we can de-humanise the enemy we will be more effective fighters. Jesus points us in the opposite direction. He reminds us that we all are similar, and all need a way to salvation. For those who accepted this salvation, it is the first step of many, which imparts a direction to life previously not thought of! Connectivity

We are Dear Reader, far more connected than we realise, our lives, like some giant game of ' jenga ', seem to have such affect on things we thought immune, as our human reason perceives it. This lack of knowledge is further intensified, when sinful nature is added to the equation.
